Desi Radio Eco Teams Project

Click here for Desi RadioVolunteers and staff from Desi Radio took part in a pilot project (with Women's Radio Group and the environment charity Global Action Plan) to run two Eco Teams.  These are groups who meet together to discuss how they can make small changes in their lives in order to become more environmentally friendly.

A Desi Radio Eco Team meetingThe teams comprised almost 20 volunteers overall who met regularly in the Desi Radio training centre in Southall between May-July and September-October 2006.  In the first series, the meetings focused on discussing and learning about practical environment topics including recycling, energy and water use.  In the second series, they focused on learning  radio production techniques and then making programmes and items to spread the word about how people can change their behaviour to have less impact on the environment.

They recorded parts of their discussions and interviewed guests, including the MP John McDonnell (Hayes and Harlingon) and Jagdeesh Singh, from London 21 Sustainability Network.  They also interviewed people in the community and recorded dramas and announcements in English and in Panjabi for broadcast on Desi Radio and other community radio stations.  Some of their audio is already available on demand from this website (below) - more will be added as it becomes available.
